Placemats finished and waiting to be used...

Mmm....Bundles of fabric...I'm such a sucker for them!
When I saw these at Fabric Rehab, I instantly thought they would look great with some linen as place mats and I knew just the pattern to try them out on .

Although I did start with just three bundles of Cloud 9's Cut out and Keep, I did go back and buy a meters of three prints for the back of each place mat. A combination of Kona solids and some coloured linen were used for coordinating fabric.
The pattern was found when flicking through Handmade by Alissa blog one day and thought that here was a project that would be easy and I could whip them up over a weekend.....that was when I was only making four....it soon turned to 12.  Three sets.

I sort of got sick of making these and keep putting them off to finish but they did have to be finished and am happy to see that I can tick this off the list on the Finish A Long with Rhonda.

The top set was given to my sister for her table.
The second was for me.
And the third...may come in handy for a friends birthday.
I did be a bit more adventurous with the quilting on the last, and are still my favourite of all three sets.
Now I was being a bit adventurous and make coaster for each set but I made them to be binded and it was just too much fuss and they were not neat so I ditched them.  It was a pitty as I loved the little red ones.

Whooo hooo.  Another project crossed off  my list of unfinished projects!

Now to Link up to Rhonda at the Quilter in the Gap.  She'll be sick of me by now.

I'm a Topper!

When I was home for Christmas I was told by my sister that I was a 'Topper.'
"What?"I asked.
"You're a topper.  You get the tops of your quilts finished but that is it."
"Well...ah.. yes....I suppose I am."  Feeling confused and admitting the obvious.
Mmm.  Maybe I should really get back to these and finish a few off.
When I returned and to my great relief I found this on Nicky's blog.
2012 Finish-A-Long
Rhonda from Quilter in the Gap has set up a Finish a Long.
And oh do I have a few unfinished projects in the cupboard.

My first is my Little Apples Quilt.

I seem to hit a wall with quilts and I do recall that I ran out of white kona fabric, ( I used it up for the Across the Sea Quilt)  Now that I have 10 m of kona white in my stash..(a big stash) I don't have any excuse to finish it.
Need to do:
Design a back
Batting
Quilting.
Binding
Sit back and admire.
My second quilt is  Echo
Again it stalled as Christmas was coming and so was my trip so finishing the top was as far as I got.

What needs to be done:
Design a back
Batting
Quilting
Binding
Put it on the couch for me to use.

Mmmm I think I have a bit to do.

My last project is my place mats

I think I have blogged about this about twenty times and yes I still have not finished them all.
How sad am I!
All that has to be done in this project is binding, so hopefully I will finish this off quickly and you will never have to read about them again.

I'm linking up and hoping this will help me finish these projects.

Oh and the Winter Stitching has completely gone out the window.
Sorry Sarah... (Secretly I just love writing lists)

Will anything be finished?

I have been trying my hardest to finish off some projects before I start anything new.  And then there is always a set back of running out of fabric or you realise that you have no thread that matches.
So this is what I have been doing the past few weeks.

Do you remember these?

My place mats are being quilted.....oh and there are some little coasters to go with each set.
I may have to put this aside for another week while I decide what to do for the binding.
Any suggestions? I thought the prints might be too much to use as binding?

And I just have to finish off the hem on my Amy Butler Barcelona skirt....

There are a few more projects that need to be finished....doesn't seem to stop me from buying more fabric though....
Can you have too much fabric?  Because I think I'm beginning to run out of storage space soon.

Happy sewing!

Just Keep Sewing.

Anyone watching the Solheim Cup will see it was rain, rain, rain here today in Ireland!
A good excuse to not go out and polish my pink car...(it was red once.)
Another good excuse to not do the gardening.
And a great excuse to stay close to the sewing machine.

Yesterday when I took a a photo outside on the decking of my Across the Sea QAL I was a bit disappointed with the back of the quilt. My crosses seem to be lost in the Kona Ash. That and I have realised in the sun that the Ash fabric is a wee shade lighter in places. So the back is now a bit blotchy.
Then when I was taking the front back into the house, I accidently stepped on it and now look......

AHHHHHHHH! What am I going to do now? Any secret tricks out there in cyberspace?

As for the Cloud 9 fabric, I have decided to make some placemats. The pattern is from HandmadebyAlissa
I have a little fabric left so I may make some glass mats to go with them. But unfortunetly the weekend is almost over and I was interupted by the excitement (for us) of the Solheim Cup and I need to now order fabric for the backing and binding of 12 - yes, 12 placemats.

Thanks for dropping by and hope you all have a great week of sewing. Erin
