A new quilt for Me, Me, Me!

A long, long time ago.....

I got a bundle of lovely fabric in the mail.

You may remember that I couldn't wait to get stuck into this fabric and cut it up straight away into HST's  I threw in a few Kona solids with it and this is what came about.

It got to this stage just before Christmas and then with the crazy season and a holiday, it just got put away and although I was eager to finish it, I was a little hesitant on how to finish the quilt off.

So some umming and ahhing, this is what came about.

Straight stitching used about 1/2 an inch apart. 

I think there were 13 rows for each block and 8 blocks across....you do the maths?

There were many, many rows and many, many bobbins and many, many hours and even some un- stitching from time to time.

 

The back shows off the quilting much more and sometimes I just can't decide which side I like the best.

(I couldn't see these HST's going to waste so I had to find a place for them in the quilt.)

Even looks great folded up!

As you can see I'm very happy with my quilt and have had some chill out time cuddling up under it.

A bit of Kona White, Sage, Coffee and Ash to splash it up!
I did want to put some Kona Yarrow in but couldn't find anyone that stocked it.

 

Great line of fabric and wish I did buy some more now...ah well, I still have some scraps to make another quilt from.
But until then, this will be staying with me.

I'm a Topper!

When I was home for Christmas I was told by my sister that I was a 'Topper.'

"What?"I asked.

"You're a topper.  You get the tops of your quilts finished but that is it."

"Well...ah.. yes....I suppose I am."  Feeling confused and admitting the obvious.

Mmm.  Maybe I should really get back to these and finish a few off.

When I returned and to my great relief I found this on Nicky's blog.

Rhonda from Quilter in the Gap has set up a Finish a Long. 

And oh do I have a few unfinished projects in the cupboard.

My first is my Little Apples Quilt.

I seem to hit a wall with quilts and I do recall that I ran out of white kona fabric, ( I used it up for the Across the Sea Quilt)  Now that I have 10 m of kona white in my stash..(a big stash) I don't have any excuse to finish it.

Need to do:

Design a back

Batting

Quilting.

Binding

Sit back and admire.

My second quilt is  Echo. 

Again it stalled as Christmas was coming and so was my trip so finishing the top was as far as I got.

What needs to be done:

Design a back

Batting

Quilting

Binding

Put it on the couch for me to use.

Mmmm I think I have a bit to do.

My last project is my place mats

I think I have blogged about this about twenty times and yes I still have not finished them all. 

How sad am I!

All that has to be done in this project is binding, so hopefully I will finish this off quickly and you will never have to read about them again.

Oh and the Winter Stitching has completely gone out the window.

Yea I know... but I couldn't resist.

Last week I was on the computer and some how my fingers took over the keyboard and before I knew it...Lotta Jansdotter Echo Bundle was bought from Fabric Worm.
It wasn't the complete line, but enough for me.
Ah well it's almost Christmas isn't it?

Now what to make...A Quilt of course and I have seen some fantastic designs out there already.

With only myself at home last night, I was able to get a good bit of time to sit at the sewing machine.
I purposely turned off the computer so there was no reading of blogs to distract me and fabric was cut and blocks sewed before midnight and then up early this morning to sew them all together.

I had cut the fabric into 7" squares  and then into triangles.
Co ordinating fabric were all Kona fabrics. Coffee, Sage, Ash, and White.  All in my stash.
 (I knew they would come in handy!)

Although it is very bright outside now, I knew it wouldn't be when I finish the next 6 rows this afternoon so I took the opportunity to take a photo of what I have done so far.

And the best bit is there is still a bit of fabric left over...which is great as I have an idea for another quilt.

I don't think there will be much more buying until after the Christmas posting rush is over. 
I wouldn't want any precious parcels going missing.
