Sew Get Started.

At the start of the year, I joined in with Sarah at FairyFace Designs with her group Sew Get Started.

Although there are loads of great Bees and QAL's out there, I know that I will lag behind so I thought that it would be a group that I could join in without having too much pressure to finish things on time.
Each week Sarah has a guest that has a  tutorial on making something small.  It has been great as I know that I can make them up and feel like I have done something for the day,  oh and brush up on some sewing skills at the same time.

So I have made myself a new pincushion out of some scraps from my Little Apples Charm Quilt.

And today I made some burping cloths, thanks to Irina at El Petit Taller for her great tutorial.

I had bought a hand towel from Penneys ( a wopping €2) last year for another project and there were a few big pieces left to use for this.

I decided instead of quilting the cotton and towel together I would sew around the fabric design to keep them together.
Yep.  Little Apples again.  I have a good stash of it to use up.  I hope Sister K likes them for her new bundle of joy.
Sarah's Flickr group can be found here.

Now my Mouthy Stitches pouch,  I better get cracking on it!

I'm a Topper!

When I was home for Christmas I was told by my sister that I was a 'Topper.'
"What?"I asked.
"You're a topper.  You get the tops of your quilts finished but that is it."
"Well...ah.. yes....I suppose I am."  Feeling confused and admitting the obvious.
Mmm.  Maybe I should really get back to these and finish a few off.
When I returned and to my great relief I found this on Nicky's blog.
2012 Finish-A-Long
Rhonda from Quilter in the Gap has set up a Finish a Long.
And oh do I have a few unfinished projects in the cupboard.

My first is my Little Apples Quilt.

I seem to hit a wall with quilts and I do recall that I ran out of white kona fabric, ( I used it up for the Across the Sea Quilt)  Now that I have 10 m of kona white in my stash..(a big stash) I don't have any excuse to finish it.
Need to do:
Design a back
Batting
Quilting.
Binding
Sit back and admire.
My second quilt is  Echo
Again it stalled as Christmas was coming and so was my trip so finishing the top was as far as I got.

What needs to be done:
Design a back
Batting
Quilting
Binding
Put it on the couch for me to use.

Mmmm I think I have a bit to do.

My last project is my place mats

I think I have blogged about this about twenty times and yes I still have not finished them all.
How sad am I!
All that has to be done in this project is binding, so hopefully I will finish this off quickly and you will never have to read about them again.

I'm linking up and hoping this will help me finish these projects.

Oh and the Winter Stitching has completely gone out the window.
Sorry Sarah... (Secretly I just love writing lists)

Happy Sewing!

I must not start a new quilt....I must not start a new quilt.....I must not...

A day of sewing and a front quilt finished just in time before the sun sets this evening.

Last week I started to cut up my 'Little Apples' charm packs and all week I have been umming and ahhing over what to do.

As you can see, I ended up just framing half the squares in White Kona.
(I do need to keep it simple) so I'm quite happy the way it has turned out.
I do wish though I got a layer cake of 'Little Apples' as I have missed out on the wee little girls and boys dancing in a circle. Maybe I'll just have to get that FQ pack at Fabric Worm.
I am looking forward to buying some of the prints when they do come out for some little dresses for my neice at home in Oz. I missed out on the Sherbet Pips, not much of it around now.

Ok, I promise I will not start another quilt until all quilts are finished, Oh except the Across the Sea Quilt Along.

Have a great week!

Little Apples and Sherbet Pips

I've had a great time sewing this weekend and feel quite satisfied with what I achieved:
Binded a quilt that I started in March. (Another blog for that)
Cut into my Sherbet Pips Jelly Roll.
Pulled out my three Little Apples charm packs and planned what I will make.
Sorted out my fabric that I am to use for My Across the Sea Quilt Along.

While the washing machine was chugging early this morning, my sewing machine was also ticking over. No interuptions!
The Sherbet Pip Jelly Roll was cut yesterday and todays job was to join all the squares.
I was amazed at how quick and easy this was done.
No bobbin running out... No unpicking... No needle broken..How could this be?

I am happy with what I have done so far but now for the backing...mmm.
I don't know if I am a big fan of Jelly Rolls. I think I missed out on the design on the fabrics. (Especially for this fabric design)

Little Apples... My plan for this quilt has changed each hour today. I still can't deside what to do. Should I use some white and frame each square that I have made or do I use the other fabric squares that I have put aside? I know I am limited to what I can do with 5" squares. Maybe I need to just put it aside for the week and tackle it next Saturday. I'm sure It will all come to me at 3am in the morning.

Yes as you can see I do LOVE Aneela Hoey's designs and also LOVE her blog
I think I will be putting an order in for a FQ bundle of this.
It's far too cute not to have it in my stash.

A busy weekend been and gone...Where does it go?
Enjoy your week and thanks for dropping by.
